A Gallery of the Artificial (2019) is an experiment in which I curated, cropped and cleaned a large dataset of portraits from various sources in an attempt to create a high quality modern portrait model for role playing character assets and related applications.

The gallery cycles through ~3,000 hand-curated generated images that are the output of a StyleGAN model. The current model is not good enough to be a fine solution to the task of bringing fantastic characters to life yet due to the ubiquity of GAN visual artifacts, which I tried to deal with by aggressively curating the training set. In future work, I hope to improve upon the results by increasing the size of the dataset and adding post processing to provide finer details to the generated images. More details and links to high resolution images of the portraits present in the gallery are available at  http://keremturkcan.com/gallery/ , the project home page.
