Tunes from the Ai Frontiers (2020). For the past few years I have been studying Irish traditional accordion quite seriously. This has been motivated not only by my love of such music, but also my research in applying artificial intelligence to such traditional music. So far different versions of these “folk Ai” have generated hundreds of thousands of new tune transcriptions, but only the tiniest sliver has been explored. Now that I have satisfactory skills over my instrument, I will be personally exploring and curating from this collection over the next five years of the MUSAiC project (https://www.kth.se/tmh/speech-communication/musaic-music-at-the-frontiers-of-artificial-creativity-and-criticism-1.950539). Each week will feature a new “machine folk” tune, complete with its origins, transcription and a performance.
